Facebook added more downtime this week when a second outage on Friday added to the six-hour blackout earlier on Monday.

“Sincere apologies to anyone who wasn’t able to access our products in the last couple of hours. We fixed the issue, and everything should be back to normal now,” the company said.

The Mark Zuckerberg-owned company apologised for the problems. said that issues that blocked access to its apps and services for some users have been fixed.

Based on its $29.08 billion revenue in the second quarter, the first outage is estimated to have caused a loss of nearly $100 million for the company.

Friday’s issues were mostly connected with Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and Workplace. WhatsApp, also owned by Facebook, reportedly was functioning without any problems.

In a tweet, Facebook said: “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologise for any inconvenience.”

The apps were all affected by what Facebook said was “a configuration change that affected people globally”. It said it was not connected to Monday’s outage.

Web monitoring group Downdetector showed there were more than 36,000 incidents of people reporting issues with photo-sharing platform Instagram. There were also more than 800 reported issues with Messenger.

With users creating memes and having fun at the social media sites, Instagram at least had its humour intact when it tweeted after services were restored: “Things have been fixed, and everything should be back to normal now. Thank you for bearing with us (and for all the memes this week).”
