At WebexOne, Cisco unveiled a preview of its next-generation hybrid work collaboration products including Cisco’s Webex Hologram Augmented Reality meeting solution, the industry’s only real-time meeting solution with augmented reality headsets to merge Webex meeting functionality with immersive 3D holograms.

Empowering remote workers

“Our mission at Cisco is to empower the 3 billion digital workers on the planet to participate equally from anywhere in the world,” said Osama Al-Zoubi, CTO, Cisco Middle East and Africa. “Webex Hologram represents a large step toward our mission of delivering a delivering a work experience so seamless that there is no gap between virtual and in-person collaboration.”

Global COVID-19 pandemic safety protocols have heightened the need for immersive virtual meetings. One such use case Cisco highlighted was the introduction of a new surgical device where physicians, technicians, sales and support teams need to be trained quickly. With Cisco’s Webex Hologram Augmented Reality system this training can be handled remotely to save time and travel, while providing the ability to see the surgical device from every angle as if the physician were in the room.

New possibilities

Webex Hologram offers the following:

  • Contemporary, immersive technology:Webex Hologram enables a sensation of presence by delivering photorealistic, real-time holograms of actual people. This results in feelings of immersion that could make all the difference in training and problem-solving, according to Cisco.
  • Sharing of physical and digital content: The presenter can share physical and digital content, allowing users to co-create and collaborate. These meetings would, for example, allow designers to receive real-time, detailed feedback from stakeholders around the world, Cisco stated.
  • Multi-dimensional experiences for multiple users: Support for a “1:many” presenter experience enables remote participation from multiple users and for the creation of multi-dimensional experience.
  • Headset agnostic: Webex Hologram is compatible with industry-leading AR headsets, such as Magic Leap and Microsoft HoloLens.
