Amity University Dubai taps AWS to transform learning experiences

Amity University Dubai plans to lead the way for the future of education by using cloud technologies from AWS to provide blended learning models

Amity University Dubai has announced that it will move its entire information technology (IT) infrastructure to Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The move comes as part of the university’s strategy to use advanced cloud technologies to save costs, increase security, and gain more flexibility to deliver innovative learning models for its students.

With COVID-19 changing the landscape of how students learn, Amity University Dubai plans to lead the way for the future of education by using cloud technologies from AWS to provide blended learning models. The full migration from on-premises data centers to AWS is expected to provide over 60% in infrastructure cost savings over the next 36 months. By moving core applications to AWS, including the learning management system (LMS) and student information system (SIS), the university can streamline IT operations and focus resources on enhancing the student experience.

Additionally, the move will also provide greater agility and the ability to spin up cloud-based virtual labs. Students will be able to access lab environments from anywhere and on any device. By being on AWS, the university aims to grow in new markets and attract students from all over the world.

Amity University Dubai is part of the Amity Education Group, home to over 150,000 students worldwide with three decades of education experience. The university programs include schools for business, engineering, arts, humanities, applied sciences, law, architecture, interior design, media, and hospitality. In addition to its cloud adoption, Amity University Dubai will offer AWS Academy, which is a cloud computing curriculum developed by AWS that helps students pursue industry-recognised AWS Certifications and gain in-demand cloud job skills.

Dr. Vajahat Hussain, CEO of Amity Education, Middle East, said, “Working with a global tech leader such as AWS is a testament to our commitment and understanding of what it takes to be future ready. By migrating to AWS, we can invest our resources to be focused on providing transformative education and offering modern-day academic solutions. Success in the digital world largely depends on our ability to be agile, so we can continuously innovate. With AWS, we can build diverse and inclusive practices that perfectly combine learning and technology.”

Faisal Mian, Head of Public Sector, Middle East and North Africa at AWS, said, “The rapid transformation of the education sector over the past year has elevated the importance of technology in helping educational institutions respond quickly to meet students’ evolving needs. By moving from its on-premises data centers to AWS, Amity University Dubai can save costs, and its IT resources can focus on delivering engaging and flexible learning experiences to students. We look forward to continuing to support its innovation journey and its focus on developing skills that equip students for the jobs of the future.”
