At LEAP 2022, Chinese telecom and technology firm Huawei announced plans to create a cloud region in Saudi Arabia. The cloud region would increase access to Huawei’s services for businesses and governments throughout the region, according to the company.

Embracing digitalisation

Speaking at LEAP 2022, Rotating Chairman Duo Ping, said, “Over the past three years alone, many global enterprises have fully embraced digitalisation, with the top 10% of these organisations growing their revenue as much as five times faster than those who have not embraced digitalisation,” he went to highlight the Kingdom’s aggressive plans to become one of the world’s top technology-driven economies in the world.

Social and economic value

The new cloud region will create new social and economic value in Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East in line with their digital development strategies, according to Ping. Ping highlighted Huawei’s role in supporting Saudi Arabia’s digitalisation efforts, citing the company’s work with Aramco.

“For the past 17 years, the company has assured stable Saudi telecom networks during major national events such as the Hajj that demands high quality networks,” he said in a statement.

As part of Huawei’s future projects within the Kingdom, Ping stated that the company will work to develop a large-scale AI model to be used in language identification, medical research and development, and disease detection among other areas.
