Sheikh Maktoum meets SAP CEO as Dubai aims to strengthen tech partnerships

Emirates seeks to be a hub for future-oriented technologies and empower a new generation of local talent with advanced tech capabilities

Sheikh Maktoum meets SAP CEO Dubai

His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, met with Christian Klein, Chief Executive Officer and member of the Executive Board of SAP SE, the global leader in enterprise application software.

The meeting takes place against the backdrop of Dubai’s efforts to strengthen cooperation with the world’s leading technology companies to both expand its world-class infrastructure base in advanced technologies and create comprehensive new training programmes for enhancing local digital and technology skills.

Following the meeting, Sheikh Maktoum said: “Guided by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform the UAE into a leading nation in the global digital landscape, and the constant follow up of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai to implement this vision, the emirate is further expanding its cooperation with the world’s major technology companies to nurture local talent in advanced technologies and enhance their skillsets, capacities and experiences.

“Aligned with HH Sheikh Mohammed’s directives, we are building a vibrant new innovation ecosystem to turn Dubai into a hub for future-oriented technologies. We recognise that to achieve this we need to empower a new generation of talent and entrepreneurs with the capabilities needed to facilitate the rapid evolution of the sector.

“Partnerships have always been at the heart of Dubai’s leaps in development, and we continue to establish alliances with global companies that are playing a key role in accelerating worldwide innovation, in order to realise our vision.”

Sheikh Maktoum and the SAP CEO discussed new growth avenues offered by Dubai and UAE to global technology companies. They also discussed how Dubai can work together with SAP to create new opportunities for technology talent and entrepreneurs to realise their aspirations and support the region in developing its digital industry.

The meeting was attended by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA); Abdulla Al Basti, Secretary General of The Executive Council of Dubai; and Abdulla Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Director General of the Dubai Government Human Resources Department.

Klein expressed his deep appreciation to the Dubai leadership and government for providing his company a supportive environment for growing its business and enhancing its contributions to advancing technology innovation in the region and added that Dubai provides a model for partnerships between governments and technology companies to deliver growth and transformation.

One of the world’s largest providers of enterprise application software, SAP has established the headquarters of its Middle East and North Africa operations in Dubai Internet City.  As the Innovative Enterprise Software Partner for Expo 2020 Dubai, SAP is supporting the delivery of personalised experiences to visitors to the mega global event. The Germany-based company achieved total revenues of €27.84 billion in 2021.
