Review: Acer Aspire Vero

We took Acer Aspire Vero laptop for a spin and found out why it’s a strong contender for eco-conscious consumers

Laptop production is a resource-intensive process. Materials used in laptops consist primarily of metals and plastic, which contribute to global greenhouse gas emissions.

With increasing industry imperatives and consumer demands to go green, organisations across the world are transforming their strategies to become more environmentally responsible.

How Acer is taking sustainability to the next level

In response to this, Acer launched its sustainability-focused laptop – Aspire Vero. While an eco-friendly laptop will not solve all environmental woes today, it is a significant step forward in the IT industry’s journey towards sustainability.

Targeted to ‘eco-minded users’, Aspire Vero is a practical, mid-range device.

Acer Aspire Vero: Design and packaging

Aspire Vero’s most notable feature is its eco-conscious design and build. Its chassis and keycaps are composed of 30 percent and 50 percent post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic respectively.

The lid and main body of the device are unpainted and are play grey in colour with fine flecks of yellow. It has a slightly coarse texture, resembling recycled paper. The laptop has a rugged look and sturdy feel.

The device has a full-sized keyboard with black, chiclet keys and white backlighting, which give tactile responses. The ‘R’ and ‘E’ keys are highlighted in yellow and are written backwards to reflect the principles of “review, rethink, recycle, and reduce”. The keyboard deck also has the words ‘Intel Core’ and ‘Post Consumer Recycled’ engraved. The trackpad is spacious and smooth.

Aspire Vero comes in unique packaging as it is made of 85 percent recycled paper and cardboard. It can also be repurposed as a laptop stand or a cat bed.

Acer Aspire Vero: Display and connectivity

Aspire Vero is equipped with a 15.6-inch display with an FHD resolution of 1920 x 1080p. The display colours are quite bright but not particularly vibrant, however, they’re suitable for work and leisure viewing.

Weighing 1.8kg and measuring 363 x 238 x 18mm (WDH), the device is hefty and bulky, to say the least.

In terms of connectivity, Aspire Vero comes with Wi-Fi 6, Ethernet LAN port, HDMI 2.0 socket, a single USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port and three USB Type-A ports.

Acer Aspire Vero: Performance and battery life

The device is powered by Windows 11, which makes it intuitive and easy to navigate.

Under the hood, Aspire Vero rocks an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, Intel Iris Xe Graphics, 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 512GB SSD, which makes the device perform effortlessly. The machine proved snappy and powerful enough to handle multiple daily chores as well as other demanding tasks.

It also features Acer TrueHarmony and Acer PurifiedVoice with AI noise reduction allowing for crystal-clear conference calls.

Aspire Vero has a 48Wh battery and keeps the lights on for around six hours of a normal day use involving a mix of apps. Powering it up again took less than an hour and a half, which is adequate. It also has a few power-saving features, improving efficiency and battery life.

Acer Aspire Vero: Final thoughts

Overall, Aspire Vero delivers on its eco-friendly promise and performs well enough to support daily productivity. So, if you are on the lookout for a mid-range laptop and are determined to make eco-conscious buying decisions, then the Acer Aspire Vero might be the device for you.
