Omantel strengthens its digital capabilities

Catalysing Digital Transformation, an intensive twelve-week educational programme, was offered through Omantel’s Digital School,to keep employees abreast of emerging technologies.

Omantel had recently offered a select group of employees a custom educational Programme delivered by the Stanford Centre for Professional Development in the Stanford University School of Engineering.

Catalysing Digital Transformation, an intensive twelve-week educational programme, was offered through Omantel’s Digital School, whose mission is to keep employees abreast of emerging technologies and strengthen Omantel’s digital capabilities to create and capture new value in the market.

The programme covered key topics on digital technology trends and practices and equips employees with digital mindsets and skills to contribute to and lead strategic digital transformation initiatives at Omantel. Omantel brought together a cohort of 50 employees from cross-functional units, including both technologists and engineers and business and operation managers, to collaborate on developing and implementing innovative ideas.

Participants gained knowledge and skills on impacts of emerging technologies, customer centricity, design thinking, product opportunity assessment, product strategy and roadmaps, network and platform strategy, and collaboration with agility.

“The Catalysing Digital Transformation programme was aimed at bolstering our employees’ capabilities in keeping up with Omantel’s current and future needs, as well as the company’s ability to avail of new market opportunities that arise with the advancement of technology. It is in line with our focus on bringing best-in-class training and workshops to ensure that our employees can deliver effective and high-quality work on par with international standards,” commented Dr Ghalib Al Hosni, Chief People Officer at Omantel.

The components of the course included live virtual workshops, self-paced online courses, discussion sessions, all facilitated by Stanford instructors, as well as Capstone presentations.

Dr. Ghalib Al Hosni added that educational programmes like this help position Omantel as a company that leads the future of telecom and technology in the Sultanate of Oman by developing and nurturing talents, and demonstrate that Omantel is working well beyond the traditional telecom ambit, actively developing its employees’ skills in technology, data, and all emerging strands.
