Uber doubles down on innovation with Oracle partnership

Uber is moving some of its most critical workloads to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to modernise its infrastructure and speed up its journey to profitability

Oracle and Uber Technologies have formed a strategic cloud partnership for seven years with the goal of facilitating Uber’s innovation, launching new products, and driving greater profitability.

Uber aims to focus its resources on its primary strengths and strategic goals as it expands and enters new markets. To achieve this, the company is moving some of its most critical workloads to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to modernise its infrastructure and speed up its journey to profitability.

“Uber is revolutionising the way people, products, and services move across continents and through cities,” said Uber CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi.

“To deliver on that promise for customers while building value for shareholders, we needed a cloud provider that will help us maximise innovation while reducing our overall infrastructure costs. Oracle provides an ideal combination of price, performance, flexibility, and security to help us deliver incredible customer service, build new products, and increase profitability.”

OCI’s strategy and product vision have been strongly validated by the recent partnership with Uber and favorable analyst reports.

Customers increasingly demand the combination of high-quality infrastructure, flexible services, and global availability, all of which OCI offers uniquely. Uber can now leverage OCI’s exclusive capabilities to enhance its own services.

“Uber is expanding into a ‘go anywhere, get anything’ platform, and the company needed a cloud partner that shares a relentless focus on innovation,” said Oracle CEO, Safra Catz.

“This landmark competitive win for OCI is further validation of the momentum and acceleration we are experiencing in the market. Enterprises, governments, and startups around the world are recognising the differentiation of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and experiencing our performance, security, and economic benefits versus other hyperscalers.”

In addition to the OCI agreement, the strategic partnership between Uber and Oracle encompasses various other areas of collaboration. As part of the agreement, Oracle will adopt Uber as a preferred rideshare service for its employees worldwide, while also becoming a global Uber for Business client.

Moreover, Uber and Oracle will continue to work together on developing innovative retail and delivery solutions, as well as last-mile logistics to improve consumer experiences. All of these initiatives will evolve from the companies’ cloud partnership.
