UAE: Emirates to open $135 million high-tech pilot training centre

Set to open in 2024, the new facility will have the potential to expand Emirates’ pilot training capacity by 54 percent annually

Emirates is set to construct a state-of-the-art training center with the capacity to house 6 Full Flight Simulator Bays (FFS) to cater for its upcoming Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X airplanes. This cutting-edge facility, spanning 63,318 square feet, is scheduled to launch in March 2024.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive Emirates Airline and Group, said, “This $135 million investment to build a new pilot training centre will ensure Emirates’ readiness to commence its pilot training ahead of the delivery of its new aircraft fleet starting from 2024. The building will be equipped with the latest, technologically advanced simulators to provide the best training for pilots, while using solar power to reduce energy consumption.”

Located adjacent to the current Emirates Training Facilities in Dubai, the new facility will offer seamless integration and proximity to other pilot training centres.

As part of the pilot training programme, trainees will be able to use customised devices to set up and adjust the cockpit environment, and upload the data to the Full Flight Simulator (FFS) before beginning their training session. This pioneering approach, according to Emirates, is aimed at reducing the time trainees spend preparing inside the simulator, enhancing their concentration and maximising the benefits of the training period.

Emirates is poised to boost its pilot training capacity by 54 percent per year, thanks to the addition of a new building to its existing training facilities in Dubai.

With a total of 17 full flight simulator bays spread across its training centres, the airline’s pilots will benefit from enhanced flexibility and new facilities, enabling them to perfect their flying skills. The combined simulator capacity of over 130,000 training hours annually is truly impressive.

Aligned with the anticipated arrival of Emirates’ inaugural Airbus A350 aircraft, the airline’s latest training college is scheduled to commence training the first group of A350 pilots by June 2024.
