World’s tallest 3D printed building now in Riyadh

The 9.9-m tall building, was 3D printed in just 26 days

The world’s tallest 3D printed structure, a three-story smart home villa, has been successfully completed in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, according to real estate developer Dar Al Arkan.

Using a 3D construction printer from Denmark-based Cobod International, the 9.9-m-tall skyscraper was constructed in 26 days. The 3D printable concrete, with which all the walls of the 330 sq m structure were manufactured, was made using low-cost local resources.

According to a statement from the Saudi developer, the villa—the company’s first 3D-printed structure—is entirely compatible with construction laws and serves as a shining example of how innovation and technology can coexist with security and rules. The property uses modern materials and has a number of smart home technologies.

The villa also includes smart controls for the doors, locks, air conditioning, and lighting, as well as nine solar panels on the roof that provide enough electricity to operate many of the villa’s systems, including the heating and lighting.

The outer walls of the villa were painted using heat-reflecting nanotechnology, making it up to 40% more heat resistant than conventional structures.
