Google adds coding features to Bard AI

The new coding features will be available for over 17 programming languages

Google has introduced new features related to programming and software development to its experimental artificial intelligence tool, Bard.

In a blog post, the company announced new features including code generation, debugging, code explanation, and Google spreadsheet formulas.

The search giant added these features in response to user requests and said Bard’s new ability to explain code could be especially beneficial to those new to programming. However, the company warned that Bard is still an early experiment and its responses may be inaccurate, misleading, or incomplete.

“When it comes to coding, Bard may give you working code that doesn’t produce the expected output, or provide you with code that is not optimal or incomplete,” the company said.

“Always double-check Bard’s responses and carefully test and review code for errors, bugs and vulnerabilities before relying on it.”

The new coding features will be available for over 17 programming languages.

“We are launching these capabilities in more than 20 programming languages including C++, Go, Java, JavaScript, Python and Typescript,” the company said.

“And you can easily export Python code to Google Colab — no copy and paste required.”

Google expanded access to Bard a month ago, following its initial release to “trusted testers” in February.

Over the last couple of months, Google has been competing with Microsoft and OpenAI in the field of AI. OpenAI, which has received support from Microsoft, developed a widely discussed chatbot named ChatGPT that has garnered attention.
