Google to test ads in generative AI search results

The company will test the new ad placements using existing ads

Google

In an effort to compete with competitor Microsoft in the lucrative search advertisements market, Alphabet Inc.’s Google will start experimenting with generative AI-powered advertising inside search results.

Google and Microsoft have intensified their competition to transform how people search for information during the past several months by incorporating generative AI into their search engines.

How it works

If a user searches “gaming monitors for kids” on the new version of Google, the generative AI could potentially respond with an ad (of a gaming monitor) along with tips to choose the best monitor.

Google already has a technology that can produce ads for businesses. That tool will now be able to generate adverts depending on the context of a user’s inquiry with generative AI capabilities.

Availability

Earlier this month, Google introduced the Search Generative Experience update to their search engine. This update will be rolled out over several weeks through a waitlist. The company will test the new ad placements using existing ads that appear on traditional Google searches.
