Kuwait activates biometric system across its borders

Kuwait’s Ports and Borders Security Sector has activated the biometric system, which involves capturing facial, eye, and fingerprint scans of individuals entering the Gulf state through its ports

The Ministry of Interior has announced the implementation of the biometric system at Kuwait’s entry points, in accordance with the national project aimed at safeguarding the country’s security.

The Department of Public Relations and Security Media stated that part of their commitment to enhancing border security using the latest technologies, the Ports and Borders Security Sector has activated the biometric system, which involves capturing facial, eye, and fingerprint scans of individuals entering Kuwait through its ports.

According to local media reports, the system will be enforced for all individuals aged 18 and above, in line with the legal procedures for nationality issuance in Kuwait. Whether they are citizens, residents, or visitors, anyone arriving in Kuwait via any of the ports will be subjected to this new biometric system.

To ensure convenience for citizens and travelers, the security authority has established four centers in collaboration with the General Department of Information Systems in the areas of Jahra, Ali Sabah Al-Salem, Farwaniya, and West Mishref. These centers will operate 24 hours a day and are affiliated with the General Department of Criminal Evidence.

For completing biometric procedures, the investigation management center will be open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. Biometric devices provided by the General Department of Criminal Evidence are available at air, land, and sea border crossings.

To visit the designated centres and undergo biometric procedures (for those who wish to do so before traveling), citizens and residents must schedule an appointment through the “Meta” platform, while visitors can make appointments via the Ministry of Interior’s website (https://meta.e.gov.kw/En/).

The Ministry of Interior is actively working on opening new sites and centers, and further announcements will be made in the near future. Since its launch on May 12, the new security system implemented at border crossings and designated centers has proven to be highly effective. Within a span of ten days, approximately 65,000 citizens, Gulf nationals, residents, and visitors who have returned to Kuwait after traveling abroad have been successfully registered in the biometric system, aiming to enhance security measures and prevent the entry of wanted individuals and forgers, as reported by security sources to Al-Qabas daily.
