UAE holidays 2023: Six-day long weekend for Eid Al Adha revealed

It is estimated that the holiday will likely take place from Tuesday, June 27, to Friday, June 30

As the highly anticipated Eid Al Adha draws near, UAE residents are in for a treat—a well-deserved long weekend, perfectly timed just before schools close for a generous two-month summer break. Ah, the joys of relaxation and quality time with loved ones!

Now, the duration of this delightful weekend will hinge on the Moon sighting, which determines the beginning and ending of the Islamic Hijri calendar months.

The designated holiday period for this festival spans from the 9th to the 12th of Dhul Hijjah. However, in the Gregorian calendar, the specific dates can vary depending on the sighting of the Moon.

It is estimated that the holiday will likely take place from Tuesday, June 27, to Friday, June 30.

This means a glorious six-day break, inclusive of the customary Saturday-Sunday weekend.

Eid Al Adha is a significant observance that takes place during the 12th and final month of the Hijri calendar, known as Dhul Hijjah. At present, we find ourselves in the 11th month, Dhul Qaidah, specifically on the 14th day—June 3, to be precise.

Now, let’s discuss the exciting possibilities. If the Moon graces us with its sighting on that magical night, Dhul Hijjah will commence on June 19, paving the way for a splendid six-day holiday weekend starting on June 27.

However, should the Moon choose to remain elusive on June 18, Dhul Hijjah will begin on June 20, resulting in a still delightful five-day weekend starting June 28. While a day shorter, it still offers ample time to unwind, rejuvenate, and make the most of the festivities.

Now, I know you’re eager to mark your calendars and plan ahead.

The confirmation of the weekend’s duration, whether it be five or six days, will take place on Dhul Qaidah 29, falling on June 18. Rest assured, that this date will bring the clarity you seek as you prepare for this joyous occasion.

Eid Al Adha promises to be a remarkable long weekend, allowing you to indulge in the festivities, bask in the warmth of family and friends, and create lasting memories.
