Dubai strengthens position as global digital hub

In Q1 2023, Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy attracts 30 tech startups

The Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy, operating under the umbrella of Dubai Chambers, has unveiled its impressive accomplishments for the first quarter of 2023. With a strong commitment to bolstering the emirate’s digital economy and supporting the ambitious Dubai Economic Agenda D33, the chamber has made significant strides in these areas.

Over the course of the first three months of this year, the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy collaborated closely with relevant government entities to attract 30 promising startups in the technology sector. This endeavor not only aims to develop the digital economy but also seeks to enhance Dubai’s appeal to tech investors.

Additionally, the chamber launched a groundbreaking initiative to foster communication with key stakeholders in the digital business community. As part of this initiative, a series of ten engaging workshops were organised for the private sector, with each workshop focusing on specific aspects of the digital economy. These interactive sessions proved invaluable in identifying and addressing challenges faced by targeted sectors, and they facilitated the development of tailored solutions to improve performance and foster competitiveness among companies.

Omar Sultan Al Olama, the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, as well as the Chairman of the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy, emphasised the chamber’s unwavering dedication to realising the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. Establishing Dubai as a global capital of the digital economy remains a top priority for the chamber, with the private sector playing a pivotal role in achieving this ambitious objective.

According to Al Olama, fostering constructive dialogue with key segments of Dubai’s digital business community is a primary focus for the UAE. This approach enables the identification of opportunities, challenges, and recommendations that will shape the future of the digital economy. Furthermore, Al Olama stated that the chamber aims to chart a comprehensive roadmap for strengthening Dubai’s digital infrastructure, developing legislation that supports the growth of tech companies, and enhancing the digital economy’s competitiveness while significantly contributing to Dubai’s overall economic growth.

The series of interactive workshops covered an extensive array of sectors within the digital economy, including 3D printing, social media, venture capital and business incubators, e-commerce, video games, the gig economy, financial technology (FinTech), the metaverse, cryptocurrencies, health tech, artificial intelligence, and software development.

The Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting Dubai’s digital transformation and solidifying the emirate’s position as a global capital of the digital economy. To this end, the chamber has devised an ambitious strategy aimed at attracting 300 new digital startups in the upcoming years. As part of these efforts, the chamber is set to host the highly anticipated Expand North Star Summit in October. Serving as the region’s largest gathering of startups, this event will be a platform to showcase the growth opportunities emerging in Dubai’s digital economy. Moreover, it will act as a strategic catalyst to expand the future of the digital economy as a whole.
