Saudi Arabia: Mecca Route launches tech-driven system to track pilgrims’ luggage

New measure will ensure the safe and timely delivery of pilgrims’ belongings to their designated residences in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina

The Mecca Route initiative has introduced a new system to handle the logistics of the sacred Hajj pilgrimage.

The initiative will see the launch of a new luggage coding and sorting system that promises to revolutionise the way pilgrims’ belongings are handled.

With this measure in place, the worries of lost or mishandled luggage will be a thing of the past for Hajj pilgrims. The system’s primary goal is to ensure the safe and timely delivery of their belongings to their designated residences in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

The Mecca Route initiative is revolutionising the logistics of the Hajj pilgrimage with its latest addition: an innovative luggage coding and sorting system. The move aims to enhance the overall experience for pilgrims by ensuring the secure and hassle-free delivery of their belongings to their residences in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

To make this possible, the initiative has established a dedicated hall within the departure airports, where a team of specialists from the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah meticulously handles the coding process. This intricate procedure kicks off with the meticulous sorting of luggage, followed by the affixing of coded labels onto each and every piece of baggage.

These labels are embedded with crucial flight details and personal information about the pilgrims, including their places of residence in Saudi Arabia. As an added layer of security, a similar label will also be attached to the cover of the pilgrims’ passports, creating a robust system that leaves no room for error.

Pilgrims will receive a handy card containing identical information to that on their luggage labels. This will allow them to track their luggage, providing peace of mind and minimising the likelihood of any unfortunate mishandling of their belongings.

Once the pilgrims touch down at either the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah or the Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz International Airport, they will be swiftly whisked away to buses awaiting their arrival. These buses will then transport them to their designated residences, ensuring a seamless and efficient transition.
