Mark Zuckerberg announces ‘Threads’ to knockout Elon Musk’s Twitter

Threads, which is Instagram’s text-based conversation app, is scheduled for release on 6 July

Meta Platforms is set to introduce its microblogging app, Threads, just days after Elon Musk, the executive chair of Twitter, announced temporary restrictions on the number of posts users can read on the platform.

According to an App Store listing, Threads, which is Instagram’s text-based conversation app, is scheduled for release on Thursday. The app will enable users to follow the same accounts they already follow on the photo-sharing platform while retaining their existing usernames.

This launch follows Twitter’s recent announcement of several limitations on its platform, including the requirement for verification to use TweetDeck. Musk’s efforts to address data scraping have faced significant backlash from Twitter users, and advertising experts suggest that it may undermine the authority of new CEO Linda Yaccarino, who assumed the role just last month.

Interestingly, this news emerges amidst an intensifying business rivalry between Zuckerberg and Musk, two prominent figures in the tech industry. The rivalry has recently taken on a somewhat childish tone, with Musk, now in control of Twitter, playfully teasing Meta (formerly known as Facebook) by jokingly suggesting a cage fight between him and Zuckerberg.
