Microsoft announces more layoffs on top of the 10,000

Microsoft has confirmed the elimination of additional jobs as part of its ongoing restructuring efforts for the 2024 fiscal year

In a recent announcement, Microsoft has confirmed the elimination of additional jobs as part of its ongoing restructuring efforts for the 2024 fiscal year. This follows the downsising measures implemented in January, which resulted in 10,000 job cuts, and a smaller number of cuts around the same time last year.

The decision aligns with similar actions taken by other tech giants such as Amazon and Google, who also scaled back their workforce after experiencing rapid growth during the Covid-19 pandemic. Microsoft has cited the desire of clients to reduce cloud computing expenses as a contributing factor to these adjustments.

While Microsoft has not disclosed the exact number of job cuts in this latest round, a notice filed by the company indicates that 276 positions will be eliminated in Washington state, with 66 of them being virtual roles. Employees affected by the cuts, including salespeople and customer success representatives, have taken to social media to share news of their job losses.
