Microsoft gives free security tools to customers

Microsoft expands its suite of free security tools for customers

Microsoft has announced the expansion of its suite of free security tools for customers, addressing previous criticism for charging clients to protect themselves from vulnerabilities in Microsoft’s own systems.

This decision comes in the wake of a significant cyber attack, allegedly carried out by Chinese spies, which resulted in the theft of emails from senior U.S. officials. The incident, along with complaints from security specialists and lawmakers, prompted scrutiny of Microsoft’s charging practices for security tools.

In a recent blog post, Microsoft revealed that the advanced features of its auditing suite, known as Microsoft Purview, will be made available to all customers in the coming months.

While these digital auditing tools may not be sufficient to prevent cyberattacks on their own, they play a crucial role in helping organisations detect intruders in their networks, analyse how they gained access, and devise strategies to remove them.
