Kaspersky launches specialised security solution for containerised environments

Kaspersky Container Security easily integrates into DevSecOps framework of organisation, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure

In a move to help organisations better protect their containerised workloads and applications, cybersecurity firm Kaspersky has announced the launch of a new container-specific product called Kaspersky Container Security (KCS).

Unveiled at GITEX GLOBAL, KCS has been designed from the ground up to secure modern container infrastructures across the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC).

According to Timofey Titkov, Head of Cloud & Network Security at Kaspersky, containerisation has provided tremendous benefits to software engineering but also exposes new risks that aren’t fully covered by traditional solutions.

“As companies continue adopting DevOps practices and leveraging containers, they’ve developed sprawling ecosystems that can be challenging to monitor and manage from a security standpoint,” said Titkov.

KCS aims to address this challenge through its unique three-pronged approach. The solution features a Scanner that checks container images for vulnerabilities and malware during development. An Agent then monitors workloads securely at runtime within container clusters. Finally, a centralised Server provides full visibility and management across all environments.

Additional key capabilities include out-of-the-box integration with DevOps toolchains like Jenkins and Kubernetes to automate security throughout the SDLC. Real-time alerts, detailed forensic investigations and compliance reporting are also built-in.

“By applying protection layers from Dev through Prod, KCS gives enterprises a unified solution to strengthen their entire container security posture,” noted Titkov. “No other vendor currently offers this level of dedicated coverage and control for modern microservices architectures.”

Industry experts expect container adoption to balloon further as digital transformation accelerates globally in the coming years. Kaspersky’s release of KCS aims to capitalise on this trend by providing best-in-class security designed specifically for containerised platforms from the start.

Early industry response has been positive according to the spokesperson with many lauding Kaspersky for addressing these emerging risks head-on. Only time will tell if KCS succeeds in capturing meaningful market share but analysts believe it has struck a prescient nerve.
