e& launches ‘I Speak Code&’ to transform UAE’s youth into coding wizards

Aimed at equipping children with essential coding skills, the program follows the Code.org curriculum

In a bid to prepare the next-generation of coders and innovators, e& has launched its pioneering “I Speak Code&” Bootcamp. This eight-week coding programme, the nation’s inaugural initiative, is set to reshape the landscape of computer science education for children aged 5 to 12.

The bootcamp represents a collaboration between e& and Code.org, a renowned organisation with a mission to expand computer science education in schools, while benefiting from the support of Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) Academy, which offers advanced facilities to further this educational endeavor.

“I Speak Code&” Bootcamp is a game-changer for young learners. Aimed at equipping children with essential coding skills, the program follows the Code.org curriculum. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed to build the foundation for young minds, and each four-hour session, held every Saturday, progressively guides participants through the world of coding. The journey culminates in a student-led project showcase at the graduation ceremony on November 18th. For older students, aged 11 and 12, the program offers an advanced Artificial Intelligence curriculum, opening doors to cutting-edge technology.

The bootcamp is administered by a select group of highly trained computer science teachers from across the Emirates. These instructors have undergone rigorous training through Code.org to ensure the effective delivery of the curriculum to young students.

Dena AlMansoori, e& Group Chief HR Officer, stressed the importance of preparing the youth for an evolving digital landscape. She stated, “Coding isn’t just a skill; it’s the language of tomorrow. Together with Code.org, we aim for every child in the UAE and region to be fluent in it. Learning how to code taps into multiple key skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, critical thinking, creativity, resilience, and self-confidence. It is imperative to nurture these skills in our future leaders irrespective of the career path they choose.”

The “I Speak Code&” Bootcamp aligns with the vision of the Ministry of Education and showcases the nation’s determination to lead in the digital realm. e& is deeply committed to advancing STEM education in the UAE, emphasising that coding is vital for all children.

Building on the success of this year’s pilot programme, “I Speak Code” Bootcamp, which was exclusively for the children of e& employees, the company is already planning to expand its reach in the next year. The program aims to broaden its locations, increase student participation, and train more teachers in the coming years.

As the anchor partner for Code.org in the region, e& will actively participate in similar initiatives, starting with the Hour of Code campaign. This ambitious initiative, supported by the Office of AI and the Ministry of Education, aims to encourage all children in the UAE to take their first step into the world of coding, setting a strong foundation for their future in an increasingly digital world.
