Open AI chair Bret Taylor launches new chatbot Sierra

Bret Taylor, OpenAI chairman has announced the launch of an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Sierra. The bot designed specifically for businesses aims to develop conversational AI agents. Taylor confirmed to Bloomberg Technology that the bot will not be in competition with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

He stated Sierra operates on a different AI stack layer as compared with ChatGPT. The startup has already raised $110 million in funding, and has over 30 people working in the company. The report stated Sierra has already attracted investor interest from the likes of Sequoia Capital and Benchmark.

Taylor has roped in Clay Bavor, former Google executive as the co-founder. Bavor stated that the conversational AI capabilities of AI go beyond the traditional chatbots, and has the potential to revolutionalise customer service and other industries.

The startup has secured partnerships with customers like Sirus XM Holdings, WeightWatchers, and Sonos. Prior to being the board chair at OpenAI, Taylor was the co-CEO of Salesforce. Talyor stated that the AI has the potential to disrupt industries like customer service, and could also lead to job displacements. He added, that AI will also create new job opportunities as the technology grows and evolves.

This report comes in a day after Nvidia, the global chipmaker announced the launch of Chat with RTX, its generative AI chatbot.
