Tell us about what got you interested in technology, why did you choose the space and field of technology?

Well, my journey into technology stems from my background in marketing and business management. However, it was through taking part in building multiple startups that I discovered a deep interest in technology. I realised its immense potential and added value, prompting me to pivot towards a more tech-centric focus. My proficiency in business management, coupled with a wealth of marketing experience, has equipped me with the skills to navigate the dynamic nature of the technology space. Could you share your journey in technology, the challenges you faced, and how did you overcome them?

My journey in technology has been both challenging and transformative. Initially, building an edtech startup posed the hurdle of understanding technology’s role in education. Through self-education and collaboration with experts, I overcame this challenge. Transitioning to blockchain-based applications presented a new set of challenges due to the limited knowledge in the field at the time. Proactively engaging in self-education, attending industry events, and collaborating with experts enabled me to navigate the complexities of blockchain technology.

Beyond technical challenges, fostering widespread adoption and understanding became crucial. I addressed this by implementing educational initiatives, workshops, and outreach programs to demystify these technologies and showcase their practical applications.

In essence, my journey is defined by a persistent commitment to learning, collaboration, and proactive problem-solving. Challenges became opportunities for growth, shaping my approach to technology projects.

What is your take on women in technology and how is the landscape changing? What can be done to ensure there are more women in tech roles?

I strongly advocate for increased diversity in the technology sector, particularly in encouraging more women to pursue tech roles. The landscape is gradually changing, with growing awareness and initiatives promoting inclusivity. Early exposure to STEM subjects, mentorship programs, and fostering an inclusive workplace culture are crucial factors.

To ensure more women in tech roles, we need diverse hiring practices, equal pay, and flexible work arrangements. Events and forums dedicated to women in technology, along with recognising their achievements, contribute to a more inclusive industry.

Moreover, reflecting on my experience in the blockchain domain since 2017, there was a noticeable lack of women initially. However, the NFT hype in 2020 brought a positive shift, attracting more women who found a unique intersection of technology and art through NFTs. This trend showcases the potential for technology, specifically NFTs, to provide a platform for women to express their artistic side and monetize their creations, fostering greater gender diversity in the tech space.

What is the biggest obstacle that women in technology face?

The predominant challenge faced by women in technology is the enduring gender gap and the ongoing struggle against underrepresentation within the industry. This hurdle spans across educational pursuits, hiring processes, and career progression. Gender-based stereotypes and biases continue to influence decision-making, impeding equal access to opportunities and equitable recognition for women.

Furthermore, an exclusive workplace culture can compound these challenges, leading to feelings of isolation and difficulties in establishing a meaningful presence. Overcoming these obstacles necessitates a collective effort to challenge and dismantle gender norms, implement inclusive hiring strategies, and cultivate work environments that actively appreciate and empower the diverse contributions of women in technology.

What advice would you give women?

The advice I offer to women in technology is multi-faceted. First, it’s crucial to pursue genuine interests within the vast tech landscape, finding passion in areas like software development or cybersecurity. Second, embrace the mindset that anything is possible, acknowledging your potential without predetermined limits. Each journey is unique, and success is about personal growth. Equally important is to embrace your path, celebrate achievements, and learn from setbacks. By pursuing interests, embracing possibilities, and fostering a sense of individuality, women can play a vital role in shaping the future of technology.
