Sophos guns for the SMB

Sophos plans to use this year’s Gitex exhibition in Dubai 2004 to attract small to medium sized businesses (SMBs) to its solutions.

Sophos plans to use this year’s Gitex exhibition in Dubai 2004 to attract small to medium sized businesses (SMBs) to its solutions. Sophos specialises in consolidated defence against viruses and spam for businesses with less than 100 employees. The solutions are designed to be easy to install, use and update.

The most prominent offering from Sophos is its Small Business Suite, which comprises Sophos PureMessage, which is an antispam solution and Sophos Anti-Virus Small Business Edition.

“Small companies rarely have a dedicated IT department,” says Andy Griffiths, business development manager at Sophos. “They need to devote time to managing their business, rather than worrying about the latest mass-mailing virus threat or dealing with large quantities of spam,” he explains.

Sophos pulls out the automatic updating of its products via the internet as one of its major strengths for the small business, as it provides a hands-off operation. Virus identities and spam identification methods are delivered from the Sophos labs for automatic updating. Individual remote users can choose to update either from their company network or directly from Sophos.

Sophos PureMessage also filters e-mail at the Exchange or SMTP gateway, so end users and administrators don’t have to deal with the problem of unwanted mail.
