First Abu Dhabi Bank, one of region’s most digitally empowered banks, has announced the appointment of Hana Al Rostamani as group chief executive officer, promoting a woman to the top leadership position in a male-dominated sector.

Al Rostamani will be the first female CEO of the $44 billion organisation. She will take over the position following the resignation of Andre Sayegh, who spent less than a year in the role.

She is currently deputy group CEO and head of personal banking and chairperson of FAB Private Bank Suisse.

According to a Bloomberg report, Al Rostamani takes the reins of the organisation at a challenging time for the domestic financial sector as businesses try to cope with challenges linked to the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic and where there’s mounting pressure to further cut costs as lenders become try to become more digital.

FAB is one of the most prominent banks in the region that’s proactively pursuing digital transformation initiatives and employing advanced technologies to accelerate its offerings.

Last year, FAB has become the first bank in the Middle East to fully digitise the account opening process for SMEs through the BASHER portal. It also partnered partnered with Etisalat Digital to launch a digital invoicing solution that caters to the SME merchant base in a fully contactless manner. The two organisations also teamed up to deploy a cloud-based IoT Smart Building solution, an initiative that will provide FAB ‘anytime anywhere’ access and ease of operations across its entire portfolio.
