Referring to its collaborations with Google and Microsoft, Samsung highlighted the consumer benefits derived during its Unpacked event. It further provided details of the Galaxy Watch developments and the security capabilities of its latest smartphones.
Patrick Chomet, corporate EVP and global head of products and experience at Samsung, talked about the benefits and added value customers derive from such partnerships. Citing Android Auto as an example, he stated that the driver’s smartphone screen is mirrored onto the vehicle’s display, thus enabling drivers to control connected home devices by using Samsung’s SmartThings app.
Using SmartTabs, the app connects to Samsung’s tracking tags. “We worked closely with Google from the beginning to deeply integrate Android into our device experience”, said Chomet. He further added that Samsung aimed to create a “seamless experience” between “Windows PC” and its Galaxy smartphones.
Regarding the Galaxy Watch, the company aims to release an upgraded model later this year, focusing on providing a consistent user experience with Android devices. The broader wearables focus incorporates eSim, low power processors that monitor heart rate and sleep without draining the battery, and consistent sensor technology.
As healthcare is an emerging sector, especially for Samsung’s wearables, it had detailed the progress on its stretchable displays for the segment. In addition, Samsung father noted plans to integrate its Tizen platform along with Google’s Wear OS to provide a better performance, an ecosystem of apps, and longer battery life.
Lastly, Samsung explained that it is using an embedded secure element to deter software-based attacks and protect hardware in all its Galaxy S21 smartphones. It further claimed that Knox Vault is more secure than passwords, biometrics, or PINS. The element comprises a separate processor and storage chip for encrypted information, with software to connect this to the processor.
