Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced that it has held a series of virtual sessions for its employees.

The aim of these sessions was to convey the company’s role in including and empowering people of determination (POD) to support and encourage their rights in equal job opportunities at work and in society.

During these sessions, DEWA reviewed its efforts in achieving local and federal strategies for POD.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, said, “As a world-class inclusive socially-responsible government organisation, DEWA achieves the wise leadership’s vision for including and empowering people of determination in society. This supports the National Policy to Empower People of Determination, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to create an inclusive society that ensures empowerment and a decent life for People of Determination and their families.

“It also supports the ‘My Community… a City for Everyone’ initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, to transform Dubai into a city that is friendly to people of determination.”

Around 2,313 employees across different divisions attended the sessions and learned about the legal framework for protecting POD in the UAE and at DEWA and key definitions for their inclusion and empowerment.

They also learned about DEWA’s strategy in this area, its key achievements to facilitate POD access for customers and employees to its buildings, facilities and services.

Al Tayer added that DEWA provides an inclusive and resilient work environment for its employees of determination to unleash and prove their potential and abilities.

Between 2015 and 2020, DEWA implemented 58 social programmes and initiatives to support and include POD in society. Nearly 3.5 million people benefited from these initiatives. In 2020, DEWA met all strategic and operational key performance indicators for empowering and including POD.

“Customers of Determination scored their happiness with DEWA’s inclusive services at 95%, and society happiness towards DEWA’s support to POD was 94%. DEWA’s website compliance scored 96% while the smart app was scored 10/10 by the POD Accessibility Evaluation Report by Dubai Digital Authority,” said Al Tayer.
