Michele Montecchio, Country Manager – Acer Middle East

At GITEX GLOBAL 2023, Acer showcased its innovative eMobility solutions and an array of eco-friendly lifestyle products. We caught up with Michele Montecchio, Country Manager – Acer Middle East, at the tradeshow who gave insights on their participation.

As Acer’s eMobility solutions are being introduced to the Middle East, how do you expect it to change the way people commute?

The interest in eMobility has been growing worldwide in the last 5-6 years, especially in terms of electric scooters and bikes. These have become massively popular for commuting, with electric scooters gaining more traction in the last two years. They provide a useful way for people to reach public transportation or cover shorter distances within a city, making their commute or travel more efficient and eco-friendlier.

Given the popularity of eMobility and Acer’s commitment to environmental sustainability, we focused on expanding our business to design and manufacture a full line up of eMobility solutions that empower users to live more eco-friendly lifestyle. This includes a full lineup of e-scooters, catering to a wide range of users, from young individuals to professionals. We offer three series of scooters, differing in performance, battery life, size, and power – depending on each customer’s needs.

We have also introduced indicators and lights to enhance safety on our products, a feature not commonly found amongst our competitors. We prioritise our customers’ safety and overall experience.

Another device we offer is an electric bike (ebii) with an AI-powered motor. This motor adjusts pedalling power based on road conditions and user preferences, optimising energy usage and enhancing the overall experience.

How do your eMobility solutions redefine the future of work?

To empower a more sustainable and healthy work life, Acer is introducing the eKinekt Bike Desk, a desk combined with a stationary bike that lets users exercise as they work by using kinetic energy from the rider’s pedalling to power the machine and charge devices. Users can seamlessly adjust the bike resistance, seat, and desk height based on desired placement to provide added flexibility and comfort when working or training.

Acer is known for its sustainability initiatives. How are they incorporated in these solutions?

Our solutions are a testament to Acer’s strong commitment to address the challenges of immobility and promote an ecosystem of mobility that actively reduces pollution. We’ve designed our solutions with a primary focus on minimising battery consumption, and emphasising eco-sustainability.

To achieve this, we’ve incorporated an intelligent feature that optimises battery usage, reducing waste and enhancing the overall user experience. We’ve harnessed the power of AI to ensure that every bit of energy is put to efficient use, all while maintaining the highest quality experience. These efforts underscore our dedication to introducing innovative products that facilitate eco-friendly mobility through integrating the use of post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic into its solutions. For example, the eKinekt BD 3’s desk top and the casing that protects the bike’s components are made from post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic. Acer remains at the forefront of eco-sustainability.

Can you expand more on the lifestyle/home products that were displayed at GITEX GLOBAL 2023?

In addition to our core PC products, we offer a range of lifestyle products across our multiple business engines – eMobility, connectivity, purifiers, and power solutions. This includes peripherals such as stylish mice and keyboards that follow the latest colour trends. We also have three series of scooters and an electric bike, which I already mentioned, along with routers designed for gaming and sustainability, made from PCR material.

One of our most interesting products is the Enduro M3 router, a portable device that works in over 150 countries through local operator agreements, ensuring on-the-go connectivity. We also offer air purifiers, emphasising our commitment to improving air quality at home and in the office. The purifier line-up includes The purifier line-up includes Acerpure Pro Vero, the first-of-its-kind eco-friendly air purifier that is made using 35 per cent PCR material in its casing and reduces up to 20 per cent CO2 emission in the production cycle.

In addition to the power solutions showcased at GITEX Global included power stations, solar panels and portable chargers.

Additionally, we have the eKinekt bike which I mentioned earlier. Finally, our lineup of laptops includes models made from PCR plastic, showcasing our sustainability efforts. We are committed to reducing energy consumption by 45 per cent compared to 2016 levels by 2025.
