Arabian Business, together with IBM and SAP, has recently hosted an exclusive webinar, where it took a deep dive into the emerging role of sustainability and how enterprises can turn their ambitions for a sustainable future into reality

Increasing regulatory requirements, consumer and investor pressures, and the desire to improve operational efficiencies and cost savings, have made sustainability a business imperative.

To help organisations understand the latest trends and best practices, Arabian Business – in collaboration with IBM and SAP – hosted an exclusive webinar. The virtual event explored how enterprises can champion sustainability while meeting the expectations of their stakeholders and remaining profitable.

Now available on-demand, here are 3 key reasons why you should watch ‘The rise of sustainable enterprises’ webinar:

Get high-level insights from industry leaders

A host of experts from IBM and SAP shared insights into the changing world of ESG and how it can help enterprises across industries to evolve, set sustainability goals and take measurable actions.

The panel discussion features Allan, global CTO for SAP Services, IBM Global Business Services. Allan Coulter is a key advisor to several IBM programmes and is responsible for helping clients achieve business excellence and intelligent transformation through the use of SAP S/4HANA. He is also dedicated to empowering customers to embrace sustainability with SAP solutions.

Allan is joined by Carlos Díaz, chief sustainability officer, SVP SAP EMEA South. Carlos leads a team investigating the latest sustainability trends, enabling companies to leverage the ‘sustainability advantage.’ He is also focused on helping customers adopt sustainability practices for compliance, efficiency, and innovation.

The lively discussion was followed by a compelling fireside panel with two leaders shaping the future of sustainable technology Claudio Muruzabal, president of SAP EMEA South, and Catherine McCourt, senior partner, EMEA finance and supply chain transformation leader.

The event closed with an informative keynote presentation from Mihir R Gor, UKI CTO for SAP Services with IBM Global Business Services.

According to Carlos, a good starting point is also considering the three dimensions for sustainability – accountability, profitability and desirability. Accountability means organisations have to comply with regulations. They then have to make sure we improve cost savings to ensure profitability. Last, but not least, determine customers’ desirability when it comes to sustainability.

“If they keep these three dimensions in mind, they can start a beautiful journey [towards sustainability]. It’s a complex journey but it’s worth it and it will make them more resilient,” he said.

Meanwhile, IBM’s Allan explained that there’s a “groundswell of attitude” that’s driven by both political and consumer wills to drive sustainability in the current marketplace.

“We are seeing companies react in a far more engaging way than ever in history. We have at least a conversation or two every single day with different customers about what IBM is doing for sustainability,” he said. “If you’re looking for a system that can truly influence how you drive sustainability in the supply chain, manufacturing and consumer interaction, SAP is a great foundation to actually drive that particular change.”

During the fireside conversation with SAP’s Claudio and IBM’s Catherine delved into how the two organisations are working together to enable enterprises today to be more sustainable.

“This is an incredible marriage. IBM does not only understand the landscape from an IT perspective but they also have the depth to work with us in helping customers realise their vision to bring sustainability into their business,” said Muruzabal.

McCourt echoed this and highlighted how IBM and SAP have “great complementary skills.”

“If you look at some of SAP’s sustainability solutions around sustainable planning, responsible sourcing, intelligent manufacturing and asset optimisation, we can apply some of the data from these systems to help customers to move the needle forward,” she said.

“There are lots of things we can do. I think it’s about pulling this all together and helping our clients to use a mix of IBM and SAP technologies to drive these outcomes.”
