After mass layoffs, Elon Musk cuts more than 4,000 Twitter contract workers without warning

Contract workers only discovered that they have been terminated this weekend after they lost access to Slack and other work systems

Twitter has reportedly fired thousands of contract workers as new owner Elon Musk continues to make aggressive changes within the social media company.

According reports, an estimated 4400 out of 5500 contact workers have been impacted by job cuts.

No prior warning

Contract workers who were laid off also did not receive any heads up and only discovered that they have been terminated this weekend after they lost access to Slack and other work systems.

Platformer’s Casey Newton, who first reported on the cuts further confirmed the lay offs, in a series of Twitter posts.

Some of Twitter’s contract workers were based overseas in India, among other locations.

“Full-time employees, who asked to remain un-named since they were not authorised to speak on behalf of Twitter, said that they had no internal notice before contractors they were collaborating with were let go,” CNBC reported.

Twitter has also reportedly dismissed all of its internal communications team.

The cuts come following a turbulent few weeks at Twitter since being acquired by Musk. Earlier this month, the company fired more than 50 percent of its workforce.

The tech billionaire addressed the decision in a Twitter post, writing: “Regarding Twitter’s reduction in force, unfortunately there is no choice when the company is losing over $4 million/day. Everyone exited was offered 3 months of severance, which is 50 percent more than legally required.”
