The local affiliate of Dell Technologies Inc. has been ordered by Australia’s Federal Court to pay A$10 million ($6.46 million) in fines for misleading tactics involving computer monitor reductions. Following legal proceedings by the nation’s competition commission, the court found Dell Australia guilty of deceiving customers regarding the prices and discounts on add-on monitors posted on its website.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s Liza Carver emphasised the importance of the decision, saying it sends a clear message to businesses that giving false information about prices or inflating discounts is a serious violation of consumer law that carries severe penalties.

Dell Australia has committed to working with concerned consumers to provide proper refunds and interest for the over 5,300 add-on monitors offered with exaggerated discounts between August 2019 and December 16, 2021.
