According to media sources, Lenovo, the global technology firm, believes that Saudi Arabia is on the cusp of becoming a global tech hub. The statement was made by Alaa Bawab, the company’s general manager for the Middle East and Africa, at LEAP 2022.

During the LEAP 2022 interview, Bawab stated that Lenovo was in discussions with Saudi companies to bring new products and services to the market and to support the country’s ongoing digitisation across a range of sectors.

Saudi Arabia’s rise

Bawab said that Saudi Arabia will soon be ranked as a leader in terms of technological advancement and that the LEAP 2022 event was an indicator of the Kingdom’s rising status and the government’s move to increase participation in technological initiatives.

“I think they [the Saudi government] are very clear on their vision when it comes to technology, when it comes to deploying technology to deliver smarter cities, smarter governmental services, smarter healthcare services, and smarter educational services to the entire community of the Kingdom,” Bawab said. Bawab also stated that the data would be the most valuable resource in the future, especially given the interest and advancements being made in artificial intelligence (AI) and dig data.

The benefits of AI

Bawab highlighted the benefits that a range of professions could reap from advancements in AI, stating that with better analysis of data, professionals across a range of sectors would be able to work more efficiently. Speaking of education and teachers, Bawab said, “With the capability of remote connectivity and the value that [was] brought to the education sector… [it] helped teachers to deliver their education in a seamless manner, to be able to utilise different tools to be able to analyse the behaviour, the educational capabilities, the strength of their students to be able to focus on specific areas,” he said.

Bawab went on to highlight the benefits provided to the healthcare sector during the pandemic, where he stressed the importance of the Middle East’s tech infrastructure.
