Qatar: Huawei opens AI ICT Academy Lab at Hamad Bin Khalifa University

Huawei Technologies and Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) celebrated a significant collaboration milestone with the inauguration of the Huawei HBKU AI ICT Academy Lab. This facility signifies the fusion of innovation and education, solidifying their joint commitment to advancing technology and cultivating talent in artificial intelligence (AI) and Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

The official opening ceremony of the Huawei HBKU ICT Academy Lab featured the presence of Dr. Mounir Hamdi, Founding Dean of HBKU’s College of Science and Engineering, Alex Zheng, CEO of Huawei Technologies LLC in Qatar, and other officials from both entities.

This achievement stems from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) previously signed between Huawei Technologies and HBKU, outlining a strategic partnership that combines Huawei’s ICT expertise with HBKU’s dedication to academic excellence and research-driven learning.

Dr. Mounir expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “The inauguration of the Huawei HBKU AI ICT Academy Lab underscores our commitment to delivering world-class education and fostering innovation in collaboration with industry leaders like Huawei. This facility will equip our students and professionals with the skills needed to excel in the digital era.”

As part of the collaboration, Huawei will provide comprehensive support, including curriculum development, training materials, and access to global expertise in AI and ICT. The partnership aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry, ensuring participants acquire practical skills aligned with the demands of the evolving technological landscape.
