Tilal Abu Dhabi new CEO Salmeen Obaid Alameri

Salmeen Obaid Alameri has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Silal, Abu Dhabi’s leading agritech and fresh produce company.

In his new role, Alameri will be tasked to drive the company’s strategic growth.

Alameri will work to harness leading capabilities and deploy advanced technology to help secure strategic food reserves, ensuring access to safe, nutritious and high-quality food for citizens and residents of the UAE.

Speaking about his appointment, Alameri said: “I look forward to working with Silal’s team in line with our wise leadership’s vision. Together, we will achieve the company’s objectives to sustainably secure food for our present and future generations, and meet the requirements of the current and future phase for the next 50 years.

“It is of great pride to help grow Abu Dhabi’s agricultural sector and empower local farmers in the emirate, thereby supporting Abu Dhabi Government’s efforts to enhance food value supply chains and ensure sustainable food reserves for those who call the UAE home.”

Rich experience

Alameri has 20 years of experience in leading management positions across key economic sectors. Previously, he was the CEO with Al Dahra and also served as Chairman of Al Dahra Kohinor and Al Dahra Baywa boards.

He has also held various senior positions at the Abu Dhabi Sea Ports Authority and the Ports of Abu Dhabi, and the position of Senior Vice President – Human Food Division and Global Logistics where he was responsible for managing the business entities that fall within the Human Food division, ensuring commercial business growth and operational delivery.

Alameri holds a Master’s degree in Management, Communications, Marketing and Media from the Paris Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi and a Bachelor degree in Business Administration from the Eastern Washington University in the United States of America.

Silal is part of Abu Dhabi Holdings (ADQ), one of the region’s largest holding companies with a broad portfolio of major enterprises spanning key sectors of Abu Dhabi’s diversified economy.

Silal was established in September 2020 to diversify food sources and increase locally grown, raised and manufactured food. This entity complements the Abu Dhabi government’s efforts to secure food supply chains as well as to boost the supply and distribution of food in the Emirate.

Designed to protect the overall food and agriculture sector and local farmers, Silal’s efforts include the management of offtake programmes and strategic food reserves. It will also implement knowledge-transfer programmes related to desert farming technology and other R&D projects to support an increase in local production of fruits and vegetables from small farmers in the UAE.
