Apps, digital services key component of taking a holiday: Survey

People in the UAE plan on using 35 different digital services and applications to plan, book and travel on their next vacation

Half of EMEA holidaymakers stay connected for work

Apps and digital services are now integral to taking a vacation, according to a survey from Cisco AppDynamics.

In the UAE, 90 percent of respondents, 16 percent higher than the global average, say apps and digital services are now central to the vacation experience. People in the UAE plan on using 35 different digital services and applications to plan, book and travel on their next vacation (compared to a global average of 27). Meanwhile, 72 percent say they don’t intend to carry any paper-based tickets on their next vacation and will rely entirely on airline and travel apps, digital wallets and email throughout their trip.

The vast majority (92 percent) say apps will be used to verify Covid-19 or vaccine status.

With increasing reliance on apps for travel, there’s a greater chance that apps not working means that holidays could be ruined. Sixty-eight percent of people surveyed in the UAE claim that if a travel application they were using (such as an airline, train company or hotel booking app) were to fail, it would disrupt their vacation, with 45 percent believing it could ruin their whole trip. Forty-four percent of UAE consumers state that if they experience a problem with an application when planning, booking or traveling on vacation, they’ll immediately switch to an alternative.
