BMW champions emission-free mobility and sustainability at COP28

BMW Group is the VIP E-Mobility Provider for COP28 UAE

As part of its commitment to advancing sustainable mobility solutions, BMW Group is set to deploy an exclusive fleet of environmentally conscious vehicles during COP28. This fleet will include the state-of-the-art BMW i7, the innovative BMW iX, and the groundbreaking BMW iX5 Hydrogen. These vehicles will be exclusively designated for the transportation of VIP guests and officials attending the global event.

BMW Group is the VIP E-Mobility Provider for the highly anticipated COP28 UAE, which is set to take place from November 30 to December 12, 2023, in Dubai.

The BMW i7, a flagship model for the company, incorporates a touch of Middle Eastern innovation by utilising key components crafted from sustainably-sourced solar electrons produced in the UAE by Emirates Global Aluminum. This eco-friendly initiative significantly contributes to reducing greenhouse emissions throughout the entire production cycle, embodying the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

Meanwhile, the BMW iX exemplifies the BMW Group’s circular design approach, ensuring the efficient use of materials in a sustainable cycle. By prioritising the retention of materials’ value for long-term use and integrating high-quality secondary materials, the BMW iX aims to make a substantial impact on reducing the carbon footprint associated with BMW Group vehicles.

In a move toward future-ready solutions, the BMW iX5 Hydrogen has successfully completed intensive hot-weather tests in the United Arab Emirates. This model, designed for extended journeys with minimal refueling stops, offers locally emissions-free driving capabilities. Subject to favorable conditions, the hydrogen fuel cell technology in the BMW iX5 Hydrogen has the potential to become a significant component of the BMW Group’s drive portfolio.

Christian Bahoo, Global Head of Special Political Engagement at BMW Group, expressed enthusiasm about the alignment between the COP28 UAE Presidency’s vision and BMW’s dedication to technology-oriented solutions and the objectives outlined in the Paris Climate Agreement. Bahoo stated that at COP28, BMW Group aims to present sustainable solutions and engage in discussions regarding the essential requirements for achieving a successful transition to sustainable mobility.
