Apple eyes AI improvements to Siri to catch-up with ChatGPT

The iPhone-maker’s engineers have made proposals enhance Siri with capabilities similar to ChatGPT

Apple is reportedly working on its virtual assistant, Siri, to catch up with ChatGPT.

According to reports, the iPhone-maker’s engineers have made proposals to incorporate machine learning capabilities into Siri that are similar to those found in the highly-popular ChatGPT.

The report noted that there are plans to introduce improvements to Siri in 2024, but Apple’s cautious approach to Siri development over the past 12 years means there is no guarantee the changes will be approved by management.

Siri is a voice-activated technology that helps users with various tasks on Apple devices. It was first introduced in 2011 and has since undergone several updates to enhance its performance.

Over the last few months, generative AI applications such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Bard have been making headlines.

Generative AI can produce various types of data and is capable of generating unexpected outputs.

As AI technology advances, some have raised concerns about the possibility of AI replacing human workers. In fact, a recent study by Goldman Sachs revealed that the latest wave of AI solutions, resulting in platforms like ChatGPT, could replace up to 300 million full-time jobs globally.

According to a recent report by Bloomberg, Apple is also gearing up to broaden its focus on health and well-being by launching an AI-powered coaching service and advanced tools for monitoring emotions.
