COP28 launches coalition for sustainable tech ecosystems

COP28’s coalition brings together public and private climate tech ecosystem players

The COP28 Presidency has spearheaded the establishment of a climate coalition named “Innovate for Climate Tech”. This collaborative effort seeks to enhance innovation, fortify ecosystems, and create an inclusive environment for stakeholders in the climate tech innovation value chain.

With a mission to identify and amplify initiatives expediting climate technology growth, “Innovate for Climate Tech” focuses on fostering ecosystems that support ongoing and future developments in climate technologies. The coalition brings together public and private climate tech ecosystem players to collaborate on creating sustainable economic growth, employment opportunities, and achieving global climate goals.

Anchored by Masdar City, Tencent, and Catalyst, the coalition boasts a diverse group of partners from around the world. These partners include The African Private Equity and Venture Capital Association, LinkedIn, McKinsey Sustainability, Schneider Electric, and others, forming a comprehensive network for collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Coalition’s first initiative

In a strategic move, the coalition will unveil its inaugural initiative at COP28 – a global digital climate technology platform developed by Tencent. This platform will serve as a hub connecting startups, venture capitalists, corporations, governments, and various stakeholders. It will also feature a knowledge database with curated content and a platform board to introduce users to global climate tech programs.

The Innovate for Climate Tech coalition extends beyond the COP28 conference, offering a significant platform for its members to expand their work. The coalition will continue its efforts to improve the global climate tech ecosystem and will be a key player in facilitating ongoing collaboration and initiatives in the realm of climate solutions.

As COP28 approaches, its key focus areas include fast-tracking the energy transition, transforming climate finance, prioritising nature and people in climate action, and striving for the most inclusive COP ever. The launch of Innovate for Climate Tech aligns with these goals, positioning itself as a catalyst for sustainable innovation and global climate resilience.
