Dubai Harbour to keep marinas clean using drones

Dubai Harbour is the first in the region to acquire PixieDrone, an innovative, one-of-a-kind mobile waste collector

Dubai has once again pushed the boundaries of technological innovation and environmental sustainability with the introduction of the United Arab Emirates’ first-ever PixieDrone. Deployed at the Dubai Harbour, PixieDrone is developed by The Searial Cleaners, a renowned French company specialising in efficient solutions for marinas, resorts, docks, and public spaces.

The PixieDrone is a compact yet highly advanced waste-collecting marvel, measuring approximately 1.62 meters in length and 1.15 meters in width. What sets it apart from other cleanup robots is its exceptional capability to navigate small areas and spaces, thanks to its integrated video camera and remote sensing LIDAR technology.

One of the PixieDrone’s standout features is its waste-sorting ability. It can efficiently segregate a wide range of waste materials, including organic waste, plastics, glass, metal, paper, cloth, rubber, and more. With a collection capacity of 160 liters, this autonomous drone can operate for up to six hours continuously, making it a formidable tool in the fight against aquatic pollution.

Moreover, the PixieDrone is designed to tackle any environment, whether it’s saltwater or freshwater. This adaptability ensures its effectiveness in various aquatic settings, further enhancing its utility.

The PixieDrone operates as a remote-controlled autonomous drone. Its mission is simple yet crucial: identify debris on the water’s surface, intercept them, and store them in an expansive collection tank. The collected materials can then be disposed of through appropriate means, ensuring cleaner waters and shores across the UAE.

This innovative solution aligns perfectly with Dubai Harbour’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. By integrating the PixieDrone into its operations, Dubai Harbour aims to clear clutter and unattended waste across the UAE’s waters and shores. This technology not only improves the aesthetics of these aquatic environments but also has a positive impact on marine life and ecosystems.
