Now you can ask Google to write your emails

‘Help me write’ will start rolling out as part of the ‘workspace’ updates

Gmail will soon include a tool that would use artificial intelligence to compose complete emails for users, said Google at its Google I/O.

“AI is having a very busy year,” said Sundar Pickai at the event. “AI features have been used in workspace over 180 billion times in the past year alone. Now with a much more powerful generative model, we are taking the next step in Gmail with ‘Help me write’.”

The ‘Help me write’ function is an extension of the auto-replies and generative text Google already employs in Gmail. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, cited the example of requesting a travel refund while unveiling the functionality. A whole message requesting the refund was created by the AI feature using data from earlier communications with the airline. Once AI writes the email reply, there is also an option to expand or shorten the content based on user preference.
