Saudi Arabia: AI and tech to enable NEOM to seamlessly connect the world

With a legacy-free approach, NEOM Airlines is uniquely positioned to personalise the customer experience in a way not seen before in the aviation industry, says CEO Klaus Goersch

NEOM Airlines is slated to launch its services by the end of Q4 2024, according to its CEO Klaus Goersch.

In a post on the company’s website, Goesrch highlighted that the airline’s main objective will be to facilitate transportation for visitors, inhabitants, and business associates travelling to and from NEOM, which is a massive project in the northwest region of Saudi Arabia.

He pointed out how NEOM is in a unique position to build an airline and airport from scratch enabling them with the freedom to personalise the customer experience in a way not seen before in the aviation industry.

Goersch elaborated on the various woes customers traditionally face when it comes to commercial air travel and how NEOM Airlines will challenge the norm and reshape the industry.

“The airline will be an extension of NEOM: the place, the company, the vision. We are there to enable the destination. Our goal is a holistic and interconnected approach, with NEOM Airlines enabling the gross domestic product of NEOM,” he said.

NEOM Airlines will have an infrastructure built with advanced technologies such as biometrics and artificial intelligence (AI) at its core.

“This legacy-free approach is how we are working at NEOM. We have no outdated infrastructure or business models to protect, meaning we can provide a personalised service,” added Goersch.

NEOM Airlines will operate its flights from NEOM Bay Airport, which began operations in 2019 and presently offers Saudia flights to domestic destinations and international cities like London and Dubai. However, the airline intends to relocate to NEOM International Airport at a later point in time.

“The goal is to make the traveller journey as seamless as possible. Due to the fact we are building a new destination, new airports and a new airline all at the same time – there is a sense that we can achieve this to a level that just has not been seen before.”

NEOM, the $500 billion mega-city development, has selected a management partner to oversee operations at its international airport. AECOM has been granted a multi-year contract to offer project management consultancy services for NIA in the northwestern part of Saudi Arabia.
