Saudi Arabia has kicked off the trial phase of Dhahaina (smart), an autonomous vehicle (AV), at the Riyadh Business Front, owned by ROSHN Group.
This initiative is in line with the Ministry of Transport and Logistics’ aim to promote and adopt modern transportation systems.
According to Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistics Rumaih Al-Rumaih, the ministry intends to incorporate advanced technologies in the transportation and logistics sector, as outlined in the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.
Al-Rumaih highlighted that the trial is consistent with the ministry’s continuous endeavours to collaborate with relevant organisations in establishing a national regulatory structure for autonomous vehicles (AVs). The primary aim is to harmonise efforts and establish suitable regulatory frameworks that will facilitate the integration of AVs.
Saudi Arabia’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy aims to address the challenges of smart mobility and anticipate future market developments, with the Ministry aiming to decrease the number of transportation-related accidents and fatalities, enhance intracity mobility, and minimise the environmental impact of the transportation industry. The Ministry launched this trial to achieve these objectives.
Oussama Kabbani, the Group Chief Development Officer at ROSHN Group, said, “The Dhahaina initiative is a significant leap in the technical development of transportation in the Kingdom. The Ministry of Transport and Logistics in Saudi Arabia is working towards integrating a range of modern technologies in all transportation sectors, such as land, rail, sea, air, and logistics services by implementing strategies to embrace new transportation methods.
