Saudi Arabia ranks first globally in government strategy for AI

Germany secured the second position, while China ranked third in this particular indicator

Saudi Arabia has secured the top spot in the Government Strategy Index for AI by Tortoise Intelligence.

This index is part of the global AI classification compiled by the organisation, which evaluates over 60 countries worldwide. Germany secured the second position, while China ranked third in this particular indicator.

Tortoise Intelligence, renowned for its global advisory board consisting of AI experts, measures countries based on more than 100 criteria across seven key indicators: government strategy, research and development, competencies, infrastructure, operational environment, and trade.

Saudi Arabia’s remarkable achievement lies in its AI strategy. As reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the kingdom secured the first position in the government strategy index and the 31st position in the overall classification, considering all indicators. Saudi Arabia scored 100 percent in the index criteria, particularly excelling in areas such as having a dedicated and approved national strategy for AI, the presence of a government agency for AI, allocation of financing and budget, and the establishment and monitoring of national targets for AI.

To ensure effective organisation, development, and engagement in all matters related to AI, Saudi Arabia established the Saudi Authority for Data and Artificial Intelligence (SDAIA) as the national reference point. SADAIA is responsible for overseeing the country’s AI initiatives and advancements.
