Saudi Aramco’s A’amer smart city platform wins global recognition

Aramco revolutionises urban living with IoT and AI

Saudi oil giant Aramco’s smart city platform, A’amer, secured the prestigious Infrastructure & Building Award at the World Smart City Awards in Barcelona, Spain. The platform, implemented at Aramco’s Dhahran headquarters, has garnered international acclaim for its innovative integration of Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies.

Aramco transforming facility management and sustainable living

The A’amer platform has ushered in a new era in the management of residential and commercial facilities at Aramco’s headquarters. By optimising building operations, space planning, and asset management through centralised data, A’amer predicts, detects, and resolves issues efficiently. The platform boasts a unified public service interface, facilitating predictive, data-led maintenance and operation of all city services.

A’amer isn’t just a technological marvel; it delivers substantial efficiency and sustainability benefits. Notable achievements include annual savings of 1.7 billion gallons of water and 20.5GWh of energy. The platform has led to a 31per cent increase in process optimisation, a 40 per cent increase in steps automation, and over a 30 per cent boost in overall efficiency.

Recognition on the world stage

Aramco’s Community Services team proudly accepted the award, emphasising the company’s commitment to smart city development. Talal Al Marri, Senior Vice President of Community Services, highlighted the importance of meeting the evolving needs of urban communities and enhancing people’s quality of life.

Talal Al Marri, Aramco Senior Vice President of Community Services, said, “We are thrilled to be recognised on the world stage for our work in smart city development, which is essential to meet the changing needs and expectations of urban communities. Our aim is to provide not only basic services like transportation and utilities but also a range of amenities and services that enhance people’s quality of life. As our understanding of cities evolves, so too must their infrastructure to reflect an increasingly interconnected, technology-driven and more sustainable way of living.”

Nabil Al Nuaim, Aramco Senior Vice President of Digital & Information Technology, said, “This award is a proud moment for us and a recognition of the positive impact we are making through the deployment of cutting-edge digital technologies, such as IoT and AI.
