This initiative falls perfectly in line with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s directives to apply the latest AI technologies across diverse sectors. The establishment of the Centre coincides with the projected growth of the generative AI sector, expected to expand from a $10 billion industry in 2022 to a staggering $110.8 billion by 2030, at a compound annual growth rate of 34.3 percent.

As we move forward, generative AI is anticipated to account for 10 percent of all data produced by 2025. In the healthcare field, it is expected that over 30 percent of new drugs and materials will be systematically discovered through generative AI techniques within the next two years.

Three pillars for accelerating AI

The Dubai Centre for AI will be built on three key pillars. Firstly, it will focus on developing legislation concerning modern technology and studying the ethical and social implications of generative AI applications, ensuring they align with Dubai’s societal and human values, as well as global standards.

Secondly, the Centre will play a vital role in enhancing the performance of the government sector. It will leverage AI to conduct simulations that analyse the effects of new policies and legislation, predict outcomes of various scenarios, evaluate program effectiveness, and support complex decision-making. By predicting user needs and preferences, the Centre will also contribute to the development of government services. By establishing efficient communication channels and utilising data analysis tools, it will identify trends and insights to assist government entities in making informed decisions, thereby delivering superior government services tailored to the needs of Dubai residents.

Lastly, the Dubai Centre for AI serves as a collaborative platform for the government, private sector, and academic institutions. This platform will foster the development of AI applications, innovative services, and groundbreaking products, incorporating the most advanced technologies available. Through strategic cooperation with major international technology companies and leading academic institutions, the Centre’s initiatives will solidify Dubai’s position as a regional leader in AI research, development, and innovation.
