Sheikh Hamdan launches AED 1 million Generative AI challenge in Dubai

The Global Prompt Engineering Championship will include three main categories: literature, art and coding

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, has unveiled a visionary initiative set to propel Dubai to the forefront of the global artificial intelligence (AI) landscape. The “Global Prompt Engineering Championship” is scheduled for May 2024 and features a substantial prize of AED1 million ($272,290), marking it as the most significant challenge of its kind, dedicated to harnessing the power of Generative AI.

Dubai’s commitment to technological advancement and innovation has been underscored by Sheikh Hamdan’s announcement. The championship will be executed through a strategic partnership between the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) and the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence. The iconic “Museum of the Future” will serve as the grand stage for this global event.

This competition is designed to encompass three key categories: literature, art, and coding. The championship’s core mission is to strengthen Dubai and the UAE’s position as a fertile ground for Generative AI talent and entrepreneurs, and also as a hub for generating innovative solutions within the field of prompt engineering.

Sheikh Hamdan has emphasised that Dubai is taking a proactive approach, driven by the visionary leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The aim is to accelerate digital transformation and provide support for emerging technologies in the digital realm. This is facilitated by Dubai’s comprehensive digital infrastructure, which empowers programmers, entrepreneurs, and startups to shape the future and tackle global challenges.
