Tesla reveals first Cybertruck, electric pickup

In May, Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed that the company aims to manufacture 250,000 Cybertrucks annually

US automaker Tesla has revealed its first electric pickup truck, the Cybertruck.

The sleek and futuristic silver vehicle emerged from the assembly line at Tesla’s massive facility near Austin, Texas.

In a tweet from the company, accompanied by an image featuring the Cybertruck surrounded by a crowd of Tesla workers donning helmets and yellow vests, the news was shared with enthusiasm: “First Cybertruck built at Giga Texas!”

Musk, the mastermind behind both Tesla and Twitter, echoed the sentiment by reposting the tweet and adding his own comment: “Congrats Tesla Team.”

The unveiling of the Cybertruck had been eagerly anticipated, with Tesla previously pledging to introduce the groundbreaking vehicle before the year’s end. The vehicle’s unique design, characterised by its silvery, tortoise-like shape and unconventional angles, was initially announced in November 2019.

However, the Cybertruck’s debut hit a snag during its original introduction. Elon Musk’s attempt to showcase the vehicle’s durability by encouraging a Tesla employee to strike its windows with a steel object resulted in both windows shattering. Despite the setback, Tesla received an impressive influx of nearly 150,000 pre-orders within just two days.

In May, Musk revealed that the company aims to manufacture 250,000 Cybertrucks annually, a figure that he believed could potentially double, thanks to its relatively accessible price point. Tesla will offer three models of the Cybertruck, boasting remarkable acceleration from zero to 60 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in under three seconds. The base model, priced at $39,900, will provide a 250-mile range between charges, while the top-of-the-line version will offer double that range and retail for $69,900.
