The UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation recently released a short video highlighting desirable, high-demand career paths for the next years. The video underlines the belief that the UAE’s economy will be data-driven and largely digitalised. Data, analytics, AI and ecommerce are expected to play a major role in the UAE’s future.
Jobs for the future
The video highlighted the following jobs as being particularly desirable:
· Scientists
· Data analysis
· Artificial Intelligence specialists
· Machine Learning specialists
· Big data specialists
· E-commerce and strategies specialists
Surging demand
The government video aligns with the perception that there is a critical digital skills gap in the global economy, and that the UAE is being affected. ITP.net spoke to Dr. Prithvi Bhattacharya, Assistant Professor in Business Analytics at University of Wollongong in Dubai, about the surging need for data professionals across a wide range of industries.
Dr. Bhattacharya highlighted the need for educational institutions and private companies to work together to define the requirements of the future and to educate students accordingly as demand, according to Dr. Bhattacharya, will only increase.
International companies such as Fujitsu are also working to address to address the skills gap and drive upskilling across their workforce and the IT industry as a whole.
