UAE: Robot firefighters to the rescue

The robot, known as Wabel, which means rain, is a valuable addition to the efforts of fire departments and firefighters throughout the UAE and the region

The first domestically produced firefighting robot of its type in the Middle East, with top-notch technological specifications and operating capabilities, has been introduced by FFBOTS, an Emirati company situated in Jebel Ali Industrial Area.

The robot, known as Wabel, which means rain, is a valuable addition to the efforts of fire departments and firefighters throughout the UAE and the region as it can improve their safety and support them during firefighting operations, particularly in dangerous, difficult-to-reach areas or when it comes to physically demanding tasks that could jeopardise their safety.

In fighting fires and protecting people and property, the robot complements rather than replaces the role of civil defence, especially in high-risk situations like those involving proximity to oil and gas reservoirs and highly flammable materials that cannot be approached.

Features of the robot firefighter

A control station with a control range of up to 1,000 meters uses wireless technology to operate the robot. It has four hose inlets, GPS built-in routing, maps, and other navigational aids, which enables controllers to take full advantage of all of the robot’s technical capabilities.

The robot uses foam and water flowing at an 8,000 LPM pace. It is outfitted with six intelligent cameras that are pointed in four different directions, making it the firefighter’s eye from the centre of the action. This allows operation choices to be made without physically going to the fire scene. The robot is also outfitted with vertical water sprinklers to form a water umbrella to cool the robot and front-end water sprinklers to cool the surface in front of the robot.
