UAE: Sheikh Mohammed explores ChatGPT’s potential in revolutionising government services

The UAE Cabinet will soon launch a study gauging the impact of AI technologies such as ChatGPT on education, health, media and other sectors

The UAE Cabinet has directed relevant authorities to evaluate recent artificial intelligence technologies such as ChatGPT and determine how they can be utilised securely by the government.

In a recent cabinet meeting, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, approved plans to launch a study gauging the impact of such technologies on education, health, media and other sectors.

The study will assess “how the government will deal positively and safely with these technologies”, said Sheikh Mohammed.

Created by San-Francisco based OpenAI, which is founded by Elon Musk and Sam Altman, ChatGPT is a platform that generates text in a more sophisticated way compared to the chatbots of the past, based on the written prompts provided. The software was launched in late November and quickly became popular.

Accelerating government services with AI

The UAE Cabinet has also given the green light to a plan to improve government operations with the implementation of AI technology.

The plan contains regulations and guidelines to ensure responsible AI use, and its application to government operations.

The goal of the plan is to boost productivity, enhance competitiveness and the quality of government services, and offer more training to employees.
